Manual Drafter

Draft cows by sight without leaving the pit.

Perfect for single operators, the drafting gate is controlled by the in-shed directional controller and is an ideal entry point to automation.

KEY FEATURES & BENEFITS

Push button controller on a long tether can be used from a range of positions within the shed
Galvanised-steel pneumatic gate built for the tough shed environment
Quiet, rapid gate movement for smooth cow flow
3-way drafting left right or centre

RECOMMENDED YARD LAYOUT & PLANNING

  • We recommend at least 5 m of single file race before the draft gate. This slows cow flow enough and aids single file entry into the drafter.
  • We recommend at least 2 m of straight race after the drafter to aid cow flow.
  • Where the race up to drafter is greater than 1 m wide, recommend narrowing the race to ensure single file and slow cow speed. This can be done with an adjustable “crush” rail that can close to a minimum of 800 mm.
  • The exit race should be of sufficient width so that cows will flow freely and not back up to the drafting gate and prevent accurate drafting.
  • When laying out the yard or retro fitting a Dairy Drafter, consideration should be given for further expansion or system upgrades, e.g. adding Herd Tracking or Walk Over Weighing (WOW!™). A further 3.5 m should be allowed before the drafter in this case.
